He has held senior positions in universities in Hong Kong, Hawaii and New Zealand and is currently honorary professor at universities in New Zealand and Australia. As an undergraduate program coordinator for the EIL department, he developed a three-year bachelor program in Applied Linguistics (English as an International Language), and the first-of-its-kind practical course for postgraduate students on Teaching Englishes for Intercultural Communication. He has also taught various teacher-education courses to early-childhood, primary, and secondary English language teachers from different nationalities. His works have appeared in various books and international journals such as International Journal of Educational Research, Multilingual Education, World Englishes, and Asian EFL Journal. His edited book, The Pedagogy of English as an International Language: Perspective from Scholars, Teachers, and Students (2014), was published by Springer International Publishing.
